Q: Why is it difficult to say some English sounds?
A: Because Japanese doesn’t have some English sounds.
Q: Which sounds are difficult?
A: Many people know that the “r” and “l” sounds are difficult. Try to say this word: rollerblade. But some other sounds are difficult. The most difficult are: “v” and “b”; “th” and “s”; and “sh” and “s”.
Q: But why do I need to say the sounds well?
A: Because sometimes you can say the wrong sound and it’s very hard for people to understand.
Q: OK, but how can I learn to say the sounds?!
A: Don’t worry! There are some easy ways to self-study.
1. Say the two sounds: r, l, r, l, r, l.
First do it slowly, then do it faster and faster.
When you say “r”, your tongue should 'sleep' at the bottom of your mouth. When you say “l”, your tongue should “dance” on your top teeth. Please ask a Freedom teacher to help you!
